Code of Conduct

At Swing Creation Hamburg we want every dancer, staff member, and guest to feel safe, supported, and inspired. West Coast Swing is about connection, creativity, and respect — and here in Hamburg we like it the same way we like our weather: sometimes unpredictable, but always handled with good spirit.

So: good vibes only, open minds, and no drama bigger than the Elbe ferry queue.

For everyone

Whether you’re here for workshops, competitions, or social dancing, these guidelines keep the dance floor smooth, friendly, and only slightly chaotic (the good kind).

  • Respect each other: be kind. Smile. Say thanks. If you bump into someone, don’t just pretend it was choreography — acknowledge it like a proper human being from Hamburg would: simple, honest, done.

  • Consent first: asking someone to dance is great. Hearing “no” is also great. It’s not a debate, it’s not a negotiation, and it’s definitely not a challenge quest. Just say “all good” and move on like a grown-up pirate of the dance floor.

  • Boundaries matter: Not everyone wants dips, tricks, or surprise circus acts. If you’re unsure, ask. If someone says stop — verbally or with “that face” — you stop. Immediately. No remix, no encore.

  • Floorcraft (a.k.a. don’t crash): Be aware of your surroundings. If a collision happens, a quick “sorry!” or “alles gut?” is enough. No need for a full emotional breakdown mid-song.healthy environment: No harassment, no discrimination, no weird power games. We’re here to dance, not to audition for a reality show nobody asked for.take care of yourself & others: drink water, rest, breathe. You’re not a Fischmarkt stall — you don’t need to run nonstop all day.

  • Wristbands & venue rules: Wear your wristband like your life depends on it (it doesn’t, but entry does). Only water in the ballroom. Food stays outside — yes, even that snack you “just cleverly hid.”

  • Recording & photos: Class recap videos? Fine. Posting people without asking? Not fine. During socials: try enjoying the moment instead of turning it into your personal Netflix production.

  • Footwear & floor: the floor is smooth, not magical. Suede shoes = yes. Barefoot dancing = no. Powders and wax = absolutely not. We like the floor clean, not like a crime scene from a ballroom disaster movie.

For Our Professional Staff

You are the engine, the rhythm section, and occasionally the fire extinguisher.

  • Role models: people are watching you. No pressure — just behave like someone who didn’t get lost on the way to adulthood.

  • Timeliness: be 15 minutes early. Hamburg is chill, but the schedule is not “optional like brunch plans.”

  • inclusive teaching: Make people feel welcome. If someone is confused, it’s not their fault — it’s just their brain downloading the update.

  • fair judging: Judge based on criteria, not vibes, friendships, or “but they’re my favourite dance buddy though…”

  • music & atmosphere: DJs & MCs, keep it fun, inclusive, and respectful. If you’re unsure if a joke is appropriate, imagine your grandmother hearing it. If she raises an eyebrow, maybe skip it.

  • Boundaries: Professional boundaries exist for a reason. Yes, even in a scene where we hug people we met 30 seconds ago.

  • Team spirit: We’re not a ship of chaos — we’re a Hamburg dance crew. Slightly chaotic, yes, but still a crew.

Future Dance Legends

Under 18s are welcome at Swing Creation Hamburg, but must be accompanied by an adult (18+). That adult’s job is supervision — not “vibes only and hope for the best.”

We want younger dancers to have fun, learn, and not accidentally become more experienced than their guardian.

Rough Waters? Talk to us.

If something feels off — trust that feeling. Talk to staff (registration desk or floor team) or email: Office@Hamburgswing.Dance

We take concerns seriously, without drama, without judgment, and without turning it into a group discussion nobody signed up for. Possible outcomes range from a quiet conversation to removal from the event if needed. We like good energy. We are not sentimental about bad behaviour.
